This week-long day camp in June is for chapter member only, and provides a more intensive, extended opportunity to learn about healthy, minds, bodies, and relationships.
Structured very similarly to Chapter Events, each day of the Summer Experience is designed to encourage learning through a unique combination of exposure, instruction and activities. Since it’s inception, the Summer Experience has also included a field trip outside of the campus to expose the girls to their surrounding community. Most recently, Wells Fargo sponsored a trip to Pinehurst, NC for the Women’s US Open golf tournament, where the girls had the opportunity to eat lunch in the clubhouse and meet Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger Woods. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for pictures!
As always, the Summer Experience is lead by a dedicated team of female professional, graduate, and undergraduate students. Each day typically runs from 9:00-4:30, with lunch, snacks, and water bottles provided by HGSW.
These events are open to any girl in the community that wants to come, not just members! Twice each year, HGSW teams up with another local organization that shares our mission to host a free, large-scale event that promotes healthy minds, bodies, and relationships.
In the past, HGSW has partnered with UNC Athletics for a celebration of National Women and Girls in Sports Day. Female varsity athletes from nearly every sport were set up as different “stations” in the Eddie Smith Field House on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill. Participants had the opportunity to go to each station, meet the athletes, and actively learn about their sport. Lunch was provided, as well as tickets to the women’s basketball game that afternoon.
Community Events are typically hosted on Saturday mornings, and are lead by HGSW’s dedicated staff of female college students.
